Following the walk-through survey, an IAQ monitor
will be used to gather thermal comfort data and carbon dioxide levels
throughout the building. The monitor may also be set up and operated
for 48 hours or more in each of two or three locations selected with the
input of school personnel. Numerical baseline data gathered by the
monitor will include intermittent readings of space temperature
and relative humidity, plus concentrations of carbon dioxide
(CO2). If a given area is determined to be at risk for the
presence of carbon monoxide (CO), the monitor will be programmed
to record CO levels simultaneously.
The IAQ monitor is roughly one-half the size of a
standard textbook, and weighs about 3 pounds. If deployed to gather data
over several days, the monitor will require external electrical power,
and should be placed atop a file cabinet or near the teacher's desk.
Capable of storing over 50,000 data points, the monitor will sample all
parameters every five minutes, and will record the data in memory.
Collected data will then be downloaded to a personal computer for
graphical presentation in our written report.
