Caledonia High School Receives ENERGY STAR Label
Caledonia, MN - May 25,
2010
- Michaels Engineering would like to congratulate Caledonia Area Public Schools, in Caledonia, MN, for earning the the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) prestigious ENERGY STAR for Caledonia High School!
Michaels Engineering recently worked with Caledonia High School, a 156,300
square foot building constructed in 2001, using retrocommissioning to identify energy-saving opportunities within the building. Energy savings for implemented projects were predicted to total 30% of the building's energy consumption with a
3.6 year payback. A comparison of energy records for twelve months pre and post implementation
indicates a 40% reduction in energy consumption for a 2.7 year actual payback. These savings helped Caledonia High School increase its ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager score
from 37 to 93.
For more than a decade, EPA has worked with businesses and
organizations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through strategic
energy management practices. To qualify for the ENERGY STAR, a building
must score in the top 25 percent based on EPA's
National Energy Performance Rating System. To determine the performance
of a facility, buildings are compared to peer buildings in the same climate zone using EPA's
Portfolio Manager; buildings that achieve a score of 75 or
higher may be eligible for the ENERGY STAR.
