The system
that cooled the tanks at the Heileman Brewery in La Crosse, WI, wasn’t
up to the increased demand, and tanks would overheat.
Michaels Engineering performed an in-depth performance optimization
study that focused on a 150 horsepower pump. This study involved
measurement and data logging to gain an understanding of system
operating characteristics. The study showed that the impeller
needed to be trimmed more than it already had been.
By optimizing the performance of the cooling pump, Heileman Brewery was
able to downsize the pump motor from 150 to 75 hp. As a result, they’re
saving $19,000 a year in energy costs and enjoying higher productivity
and fewer maintenance problems.
