The Multi-Disciplinary Nature of 'Mold' Inspections

  • Requires a unique blend of disparate skills

  • Markedly different from those required for asbestos, lead or radon

Formal studies must include:

  • Engineering (applied physics)

    • Building science - the building as ‘a system’

  • Microbiology (bacteriology, mycology)

  • Industrial hygiene (sampling, interpretation)

    • Indoor air chemistry: e.g., ozone + solvents

Engineering / Building Science

  • A working knowledge of psychrometrics, heat and mass transfer

Microbiology

  • Fungal ecology and analytical methods

Industrial Hygiene

  • Sampling methods and limitations; experience with interpreting analytical microbiology results in the context of site observations
