Sustainable Design Engineer

Purpose or function of position: Our Sustainable Design Engineer will be responsible for reviewing building designs in the early stages of development and recommend energy-saving alternatives to baseline, or conventional equipment and systems.  Energy-saving alternatives will be simulated using DOE-2 (Visual DOE or eQuest), and many times using a combination of building simulator and custom calculation as designs incorporate features that DOE-2 does not accommodate. 

The sustainable design engineer may also facilitate the LEED® certification process in a consulting role.  This includes initial points list development, preparation and leading kickoff meetings or design charrettes, documenting Michaels’ portion of the project, which typically includes mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design, and managing the LEED®-related activities of other stakeholders in the project to ensure successful certification.

Qualification Requirements: 

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering

Strong academic background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and related thermo/fluids subjects. 

Excellent oral, written and analytical skills

Must be authorized to work in the United States

Other Desired Credentials:

Licensed Professional Engineer

LEED® Accredited Professional
